MY SPECIALTY IN WORK FAMILY BALANCE AND MATERNITY/PATERNITY/PARENTAL RIGHTS IN THE WORKPLACE
One of my greatest interests and areas of specialty is work family balance and maternity/paternity/parental rights in the workplace. In this regard, I have:
- Helped many employers understand and apply such work/family laws as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and The Massachusetts Maternity Leave Act
- Represented employees who have been fired because they were pregnant or took parental leave, and provided advice to employees about their workplace parental rights
- Advised employers about the many different types of work/family balance policies that can be adopted without adversely affecting the bottom line, such as flex time and telecommuting, and helped them select the options most suitable for their particular type of business (Many studies have shown that family friendly workplace policies are among the most attractive benefits to employees, and that adopting such policies helps employers attract and retain the best employees).

- Monitored proposed work/family balance legislation and advocated for laws that maximize workplace parental accommodation without unduly burdening employers
